How it works

Everyone starts at 1500. Win, and you take points from whoever you beat; lose, and you give them up. How many depends on the gap between you — beating someone rated far above you is worth much more than beating someone far below, and an upset costs the favourite accordingly. It's the rating system chess has used since the 1960s.

Pay-per-view matches count for more than weekly television, and the main event counts for more than the opener. Multi-competitor matches are scored as every winner against every loser, with the points divided by the number of opponents — so one battle royal can't outweigh a year of singles matches. Draws and no-contests move nothing.

A wrestler needs 3 recorded matches before appearing here. Ratings are recalculated from the complete match history every time, so a correction to any single result fixes everything downstream of it.

One honest caveat: wrestling matches are booked, not contested. This does not measure who would win a fight — it measures who the promotions are pushing hardest. That's the more interesting number anyway, and it's the one nobody else publishes.
